Patents. Trademarks. Copyrights. Trade Secrets.

Own what you build.

Roberts IP Law is a transactional intellectual property practice in Columbus, Indiana: utility and design patents, provisional and PCT international applications, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets, and the licenses and agreements that turn protection into revenue. One attorney, start to finish, since 2005.

I spent two decades testing IP in federal court. Now I draft yours as if it will be tested.

What the firm handles

One attorney. The whole transactional field.

Every matter is handled by me, not passed down a hallway. Securing rights, registering them, and putting them to work in deals: that is the entire practice, and it has been since 2005.

Patents

Patentability searches and written opinions, provisional applications, utility and design patent drafting, USPTO prosecution through issuance, and PCT international filings. My focus is mechanical, electromechanical, and consumer products, the kind of inventions I spent my engineering career designing.

Want a fixed price product patent on a defined schedule? That is my companion firm, Patent My Product.

Why it holds up

Drafted like it is going to trial.

This is a transactional practice; I do not take litigation. But across two decades and well over 100 federal IP cases, I was the one pulling apart the other side's patents, trademarks, and contracts, and defending our own. That is the standard I draft against. The cheapest place to win a dispute is years before anyone files suit: in the research, the prior art, and the time taken to do the work right the first time.

Where I practice

Anchored in Columbus. Serving all of Indiana.

The firm's home is on 3rd Street in Columbus, and over the years I have met with hundreds of Indiana inventors in person, including on site at their factories and shops, and still do when a matter calls for it. Day to day, though, this practice runs the way modern IP practice runs everywhere: by phone, video, and email, wherever the work and I happen to be. Federal IP work travels well; patents, trademarks, and copyrights are the same in every state, and your file gets the same attention from anywhere.
